Pilot Knoll Park

GALT 13th Birthday Party at Pilot Knoll Park on Lake Lewisville was a rousing success! We battled the usual North Texas spring winds but had a beautiful sunny day for doggie and human fun. The Greek buffet lunch was delicious, and the hounds enjoyed a scrumptious birthday cake provided by Three Dog Bakery. While some of GALT's adopted and foster greys enjoyed some mani/pedi and/or Reiki massage pampering from our wonderful volunteers, others were content to do some zoomies in the dog run, with just a few fence jumpers making it a little interesting from time to time! Many thanks to Abbie and Lisa with Poo-B-Gone for once again providing clean-up services for the dog run.

Thanks also to Mark Nardecchia of Shagly Photography, who was on hand to take photos of the event and provide some on-site portrait sittings. GALT shoppers - always on the hunt for a bargain - came away with some gorgeous collars and other items from Holly's Brother to Bother line and the GreytStore. The new lime-green GALT "Barking Bad" t-shirt was especially a big hit!

Congratulations to the following who received GALT Volunteer Star Awards at this year's event:

  • Lisa Bengelsdorf
  • Pat and Austin Hutton
  • Debi Joynt
  • Terri Beth and Thomas Kaluzny
  • Madelyn Martin and Todd Hayes
  • Abbie Seidel and Lisa Winfield
  • Melissa and Chris Tomczak

Also, Rita Wulke, GALT Social Media Coordinator, was recognized for achieving over 5,000 likes on GALT's Facebook page. Rita took over in July 2010 with only a few hundred likes, and has built a following through her professional journalistic postings.

Certificates were awarded for those traveling the longest distance, and Isa Stoff, of "A Grey's Home" was recognized for her travel from Belgium just for the Birthday Party!

We were pleased to get a visit from Patrick Davis, the Mayor of Highland Village, who had proclaimed April 26, 2014 as "Greyhound Adoption Day" earlier in the week at the Highland Village City Council meeting. GALT President Fred Busche, who served as the Chair for the GALT Birthday Party again this year, is also a member of the Highland Village City Council. Kudos to Fred and his Co-Chair, Suzanne Burke - and their legions of dedicated volunteers - for all of their hard work on this fun event!
